In this fast paced life, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and staying fit seems an almost impossible task. However, you shouldn’t compromise on your fitness, as you need to balance your fast paced life with some much needed ‘me-time’. Invest time in following a general fitness program that you can stick to in the long run. A general fitness routine should ideally include exercises for the whole body and incorporate a healthy diet. This will lead to overall fitness and wellness for years to come.

It is important to realize that one must exercise not just to get a toned body, but also to become more immune, strong, fit, agile, and remain happier- as a healthy body is the key to a healthy mind, and vice versa. Do note that a general fitness program should be scheduled to allow more flexibility so as to fit in with your daily routine. Also vary your exercises to keep yourself from getting bored.  If you follow a speed or power workout on one day, focus on general strength circuit exercises the next day.

There are different types of workout programs that you can easily fit in with your regular schedule. Some of these are running workouts, strength workouts, general strength circuits, tempo workouts, etc.

A general running work out will include a running-walking-running routine, with a rest-active-rest time of three minutes. You can start by running 100 yards first and following it up with some walking. After you walk for a few minutes, run the 100 yard distance again and alternate between running and walking. You can then take a three minute ‘active rest’, during which you should relax, but never sit down. After you are done resting, follow the same running-walking pattern to end your routine.

Do some general strength work circuits the following day, as this will give you some time to recover from the intensive workout of the previous day, and will also improve your general fitness. This session should include rope jumping, jogging, prisoner squats, and burpees. Make it a point to take active rest between these exercises too.

Along with these workout routines, follow a healthy diet that is replete with minerals, proteins and vitamins.
